For straighter teeth with less awkwardness

Invisalign can help you straighten your teeth almost invisibly

awkward_bracesWhen considering braces, many patients, especially teens and adults, hesitate. That’s because traditional braces tend to come with a fair amount of inconvenience.

First there’s the discomfort of the braces themselves – they can be uncomfortable at the outset and can cause gum or cheek irritation. Then there’s the appearance issue – they’re pretty obvious.

While today’s braces are a vast improvement over braces of years gone by, there is another option to straighten crooked teeth – Invisalign.

How do invisible braces work?

An Invisalign treatment consists of a series of clear plastic aligners designed to gently move your teeth into the correct position. You wear each aligner for about 2 weeks. As your teeth shift, you’ll get a new set so that, over the course of your treatment, your teeth are moved into the precise position planned for you by Chestermere dentist Dr Lowry.

Besides being almost impossible to detect, Invisalign aligners are removable. The main advantage here is you can take them out to eat, increasing your ability to brush and floss thoroughly. Another advantage is comfort, since Invisalign is made of smooth plastic that doesn’t irritate surrounding tissues.

It’s important to note that Invisalign is not for everyone. Nor will it correct every type of problem.

  • Since Invisalign is removable it’s best suited as braces for adults. You do have to be diligent about wearing the aligners for the treatment to be successful.
  • Invisalign is not always the best option when it comes to resolving tooth height problems, severely rotated teeth or bite alignment issues. There are still cases in which traditional braces are a more a effective treatment

Deciding to straighten your teeth is about more than improving their appearance. The health gains of straighter teeth are:

  1. Better tooth and gum health. Crooked teeth can be harder to keep clean allowing for food, bacteria and plaque buildup. This can increase your risk of developing gum disease or tooth decay.
  2. Healthy digestion. Crooked teeth can impair your ability to chew effectively, impacting your digestion and causing potential gastrointestinal issues.

Is Invisalign for you?

When considering orthodontics, it’s important to evaluate all the options before you jump into a treatment plan. As noted above, while Invisalign can be very effective in straightening teeth, it’s not the only option.

To be sure you get the most effective treatment for your individual needs, your best bet is to schedule a consultation with Chestermere dentist Dr Lowry.
